Reviews

A Caithan Crusade Series

Call of Madness (#1)
“All in all, CALL OF MADNESS provides plenty of action entertainment in a distinctive setting.”

Locus

“Julie Dean Smith’s first novel is not a generic dime-a-dozen fantasy. It is an entertaining novel with some original twists […] a good job […] Smith’s flashes of originality lift CALL OF MADNESS above the mediocre ranks of look-alike fantasies. I hope she continues to develop and improve her evident talent.”

Aboriginal Science Fiction

Sage of Sare (#3)
“Striking similarities to Kurtz’s latest Heirs of Saint Camber trilogy […] where Kurtz’s fantasy has a heavy historical tone, Smith’s tends more to high adventure. The situations are similarly grim, but there’s much less a sense of hopelessness […] SAGE OF SARE is an impressive new villain, powerful in magic and astute in political scheming, giving a bit of new life to this entertaining series.”

Locus

The Wizard King (#4)
“An exciting finale […] plenty of wizard’s challenges, rousing battles, and family fights to keep things exciting, and enough loose ends have been tied up to bring a fantasy series to a satisfying conclusion — a rare enough occurrence, these days.”
