**BREAKING NEWS!**

5/20/10: Charlaine Harris' DEAD IN THE FAMILY, book #10 in the wildly popular Sookie Stackhouse series, is #1 on the NYTimes bestseller list this week.

This is the book's second week on the bestseller list. DEAD IN THE FAMILY (buy it here!) sold more copies in its first day than the last book, DEAD AND GONE, sold in its first week last year (and DEAD AND GONE, another #1 NYTimes bestseller, sold quite a few copies in its first week). What a tremendous week--way to go, Charlaine!

5/14/10: Jabberwocky and Booklist agree: Tanya Huff is one of the best sf/f writers writing today. Booklist has named her latest standalone fantasy novel, the ENCHANTMENT EMPORIUM (get it here!), one of the 10 Best SF/F of the last year. Congrats, Tanya!

5/10/10: Jack Campbell has once again hit the NYTimes bestseller list--this week, his latest LOST FLEET novel reached #10! VICTORIOUS (get it here!) is the sixth and final novel in his phenomenally successful Lost Fleet series.

First week sales were up by 20% from the release of book #5, which were themselves up 20% from the release of book #4. Jack is really climbing the charts, and we're looking forward to what is coming up next. He's currently working on two new series, THE LOST FLEET: BEYOND THE FRONTIER and THE PHOENIX STARS, both forthcoming from Ace. Congratulations, John!

4/26/10: Peter V. Brett is officially a New York Times bestseller!

Peter's second novel, The Desert Spear (buy: US | UK) came in at #35 on the hardcover fiction list.

This is remarkable news, in particular because it's only taken two books for Peter to reach the Times list (both here and in the UK, where it just spent a fourth week on the Sunday Times list), and we couldn't be more excited. We think this success is well-deserved, and offer our heartfelt congratulations. Way to go, Peter!

4/26/10: Congratulations are in order for Charlaine Harris!

Romantic Times has just announced that Charlaine is the winner of the Romantic Times Award for Career Achievement, Urban Fantasy, at this week's Romantic Times convention. Three different JABberwocky authors are up for 2009 Romantic Times Awards in five different categories, and we'll find out later this week if they've won:

  • Charlaine Harris -- Career Achievement, Urban Fantasy (WINNER!!)
  • Charlaine Harris -- Urban Fantasy, for DEAD AND GONE (reviews | buy)
  • Charlaine Harris -- Amateur Sleuth, for GRAVE SECRET (get your copy)
  • Brandon Sanderson -- Epic Fantasy, for WARBREAKER (reviews | buy)
  • Jim C. Hines -- Fantasy, for THE STEPSISTER SCHEME (reviews | buy)

  • Congratulations to all! This is fantastic news!

4/13/10: We at JABberwocky would like to officially welcome author Janci Patterson aboard!

Janci's debut, the YA novel SKIPPED, sold in a pre-empt to Christy Ottaviano for her eponymous imprint at Henry Holt, just before the London Book Fair. Congratulations, Janci!

4/13/10: Great news! We've just learned that Brandon Sanderson has been named a finalist, not once, but twice for the David Gemmell Legend Award!

Brandon has been nominated, both for his NYT-bestselling standalone WARBREAKER (reviews | buy), and the #1 bestselling THE GATHERING STORM, by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson.

Congratulations, Brandon! This is wonderful recognition for a pair of standout novels.

4/8/10: Peter V. Brett is officially a Sunday Times bestseller!

Peter's second novel, The Desert Spear (buy: US | UK) debuted at #9 on the Sunday Times hardcover list last Sunday, a tremendous feat for a genre novel. Plus, we've just learned that the novel has earned a place on next Sunday's list as well. Congratulations, Peter!

By the way, if you're in the UK and missed the news, Peter will be in London next week, and has invited readers to join him on an English Country Walk.

4/7/10: Great news for Tanya Huff fans! Kaleidoscope Entertainment and The Fremantle Corporation today announced that vampire Henry Fitzroy is returning to action in an all-new series based on the 'Smoke' books by Tanya Huff whose 'Blood' novels were turned into the series Blood Ties.

We at JABberwocky are excited at the news, and greatly look forward to this new TV series!

3/24/10: More big news abroad for Charlaine Harris! Last week, she hit the charts in the UK, and this week the French edition of DEAD AND GONE has debuted at #13 on the bestseller list of Livres Hebdo, the French version of Publisher's Weekly. Big congratulations, Charlaine!

And back at the ranch, we're getting ready for the True Blood Season 2 DVD to go on sale. The DVD ships out May 25--just in time to catch up before Season 3 starts on June 13th!

3/16/10: Time to fire up your DVRs! The third season of True Blood, the Golden Globe-winning TV series based off Charlaine Harris' #1 bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels, will start airing June 13th. We can't wait!

3/15/10: We at JABberwocky are getting ready to put in some public appearances ourselves!

With Tanya Huff as their guest of honor, Eddie and Joshua will both be attending the weekend of March 20th (Joshua - Fri. through Sun.; Eddie - Saturday) in Rye Brook, NY, Joshua will be attending I-CON 29 at SUNY Stony Brook on March 27th-28th, and Eddie will be in Allentown, PA that same weekend for The Write Stuff.

3/8/2010: Charlaine Harris is officially a Sunday Times bestseller!

After conquering the NY Times list in 2009 with DEAD AND GONE (reviews | buy) , Charlaine and her smash Sookie Stackhouse series have now crossed over into the UK, with spectacular results. DEAD AND GONE (reviews | buy) is now the #10 selling hardback novel in Britain. The series has sold more than 1 million copies in the UK, we're told.

We offer our heartfelt congratulations to Charlaine! This is wonderful news!

By the way, if you're reading this from the UK, Charlaine will be in London, Nottingham, and Manchester tomorrow and Wednesday (Mar. 9-10). See her events calendar for more details.

3/2/2010: We have just learned that Peter V. Brett and Brandon Sanderson have been nominated for the Grand Prix de L'Imaginaire!

The Grand Prix de L'Imaginaire is the French-language equivalent of the Hugo or Nebula, and both have been nominated in the category for Roman etranger (foreign novels translated into French). The books nominated were Brett's THE PAINTED MAN (reviews | buy) and Sanderson's ELANTRIS (reviews | buy).

Congratulations, Brandon and Peter! This is wonderful news!

2/24/2010: Locus loves Tobias Buckell! His new short story collection, TIDES FROM THE NEW WORLD, is on the Locus Recommended Reading list for 2009. Congratulations, Toby!

2/16/2010: Congratulations are in order for Peter V. Brett!

With two months before his second novel, THE DESERT SPEAR (pre-order: US | UK | Germany) publishes, his UK (top 25!) and German pre-orders guarantee that he will again be an international bestselling author when the book publishes April 5th (Auf Deutsch: 8 Juni)! Way to go, Peter!

2/16/2010: We at JABberwocky are thrilled to announce that the debut novel of one of our newest clients, Jon Sprunk, has now sold in more than five countries!

Jon's debut novel, the dark fantasy SHADOW'S SON, sold to Pyr in a three-book deal for English-language rights, and subsequently tied for JABberwocky's largest-ever deal in Germany, to Heyne. His books have also sold to Gollancz in the UK, Bragelonne in France, and Fantom Print in the Czech Republic. To find out more about Jon and his writing, you can visit his blog. Congratulations, Jon!

1/26/2010: We at JABberwocky have gotten even more great year-end news!

Peter V. Brett's THE WARDED MAN (aka THE PAINTED MAN) has been named the Best Book of 2009 by Fantasy Book Critic's Mihir Wanchoo, and the ALA named it one of the Top Five Fantasy novels of 2009! Way to go, Peter!

The Onion/AV Club and Library Journal both named Brandon Sanderson's WARBREAKER as one of their favorite books of 2009--and on top of that, the ALA also named it among the Top Five Fantasy novels of 2009. Congrats, Brandon!

And Tim Akers's debut novel HEART OF VERIDON was named the #8 SFF book of the year by Fantasy Book Critic's Liviu Siciu. Well done, Tim!

Congratulations to all! This is fantastic news!

Her debut, PETRONELLA SAVES NEARLY EVERYONE (reviews | buy), is up for the Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Novel (press release). The Edgar Awards will be presented to the winners April 29th at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in NYC.

PETRONELLA SAVES NEARLY EVERYONE (reviews | buy) has been all over best-of lists lately. It was chosed as a July 2009 Junior Library Guild pick, named to the Historical Novel Society's Fall 2009 Editor's Choice list! (Hers was the only children's book chosen), nominated for a Cybil, and chosen by The Children's Hour (a California literacy group) as one of their Top 5 middle-grade novels of 2009. She's been getting wonderful reviews, and for more on Dene, you can check out her website here.

Way to go, Dene! We at JABberwocky are thrilled at this wonderful news!

1/11/10: Paloppa Pictures LLC and Brandon Sanderson are pleased to announce that Paloppa has taken an option on film rights to Sanderson's NY Times bestselling Mistborn fantasy trilogy!

Here's more, excerpted from the official announcement:

The principals in Paloppa Pictures LLC are Christopher Geary, Rob Micai and Marc Bryant. Micai is a co-producer of the forthcoming Letters to God, a Possibility Pictures release through Vivendi-Universal; all three have extensive backgrounds in film and television. Paloppa Pictures is currently in development on three feature film projects with the first scheduled to start production in late 2010/early 2011.

Said Geary, "As I was reading the book I felt more and more that this was a story that just had to be seen on the big screen. I contacted Brandon Sanderson, and was able to persuade him that Paloppa Pictures was the right team for the job. Obviously we're very excited by the opportunity to bring his work to life."

Congratulations, Brandon! We at JABberwocky can't wait to see this in the theater!

1/06/10: Charlaine Harris is (drumroll please!), according to Publishers Weekly, the best selling female author of 2009!

Publishers Weekly just released its list of the Bestselling Books of 2009, and Charlaine has three of the ten spots on the Mass Market Paperback list! This is more than any other author of adult fiction; John Grisham and James Patterson each had two titles on the mm top ten.

FROM DEAD TO WORSE, CLUB DEAD, and DEAD UNTIL DARK, the first three books in the #1 bestselling Sookie Stackhouse series, came in at numbers 3, 8, and 9, respectively.

According to Nielsen Bookscan, Charlaine is the #5 bestselling fiction author of 2009, after Stephenie Meyer, James Patterson, Nora Roberts (counting her J.D Robb sobriquet), and Dan Brown.

Congratulations, Charlaine! This is wonderful news!

1/06/10: Great news for John Zakour! Famed sf bookstore Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego, California has listed John's SAPPHIRE SIRENS (reviews | buy) as their #1 paperback bestseller for the first week of January. Mysterious Galaxy has also listed Brandon Sanderson's ALCATRAZ VERSUS THE KNIGHTS OF CRYSTALLIA (reviews | buy) as one of their Featured Titles of the Month. Check out Mysterious Galaxy here, and congratulations to John and Brandon!

1/06/10: Congratulations are in order for Del Howison and Jeff Gelb!

DARK DELICACIES III: HAUNTED (reviews | buy), the third of their star-studded anthologies, might just get another jewel in its crown: it has been named a finalist for the Black Quill Award for Best Anthology!

UPDATE: DARK DELICACIES III: HAUNTED has also been selected as one of the two best anthologies of 2009 by Famous Monsters of Filmland!

These are well-deserved nominations, and we at JABberwocky are pleased at the news.

1/04/10: We have just learned that Elizabeth Moon's THE SPEED OF DARK (reviews | buy) has been chosen as the January 2010 sf selection by GoodReads!

The GoodReads sf/fantasy book club will be reading and discussing the book, which won the 2003 Nebula for Best Novel, throughout the month. So, whether this is your first time reading the novel, or you've read it before, now is the ideal time to read Moon's modern classic, especially if you're a GoodReads user (and given that there are 2,500 active members in their sf/fantasy book club, odds are that you or someone you know is...).

Way to go, Elizabeth! We're delighted at the news!

12/15/09: Congratulations are again in order for Brandon Sanderson! Brandon's stand-alone fantasy novel WARBREAKER (reviews | buy) was just chosen by Barnes & Noble as #4 in their list of the Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Novels of 2009. This comes on the heels of Library Journal picking the book for their top five sf/fantasy list last month.

    Way to go, Brandon!

12/14/09: We just learned that books by Charlaine Harris and Kat Richardson have been chosen by Paul Goat Allen for Barnes & Noble's list of the best paranormal fantasy novels of the last decade!

Charlaine Harris' DEAD UNTIL DARK and Kat Richardson's VANISHED were the books chosen, and we couldn't be more thrilled to see two of the top authors in the field get the critical recognition they so richly deserve. Congratulations, Kat and Charlaine!

12/14/09: Congratulations are in order for Alan Ball and the cast and crew of True Blood! The series, based off of Charlaine Harris's #1 NY Times bestselling Sookie Stackhouse series, was chosen as one of the Top Ten TV series of 2009 by the American Film Institute, and has subsequently been chosen as an official selection for the 10th annual AFI Awards!

We at JABberwocky are delighted at the news. This is a great honor!

11/4/09: THE GATHERING STORM (get your copy) is a #1 New York Times bestseller!

We at JABberwocky just received word that the twelfth book in Robert Jordan's beloved Wheel of Time series, which is being continued for its concluding three volumes by Brandon Sanderson from extensive notes left by the late Mr. Jordan, beat out Dan Brown's THE LOST SYMBOL for the top slot on the Times hardcover list! In the UK, it debuted at #5 on the Bookscan hardcover fiction bestseller list.

We give our most heartfelt congratulations to Brandon, who joins Charlaine Harris as the second JABberwocky client to become a #1 New York Times bestselling author.

11/4/09: Congratulations are in order for Charlaine Harris! This time, Harper Connelly fans get to have the good news.

GRAVE SECRET (get your copy), debuted at #9 on the New York Times bestseller list!

We at JABberwocky are thrilled to see Harper finally get her due, as this final volume in the four-book series marks the first time a Harper Connelly mystery has debuted in the NYT top 10. It is also, we have learned, the first time a book from Berkley's lovely Prime Crime imprint (if you like cozies, you should check out other books on their list) has done the same.

Incidentally, this is the first week three JABberwocky titles have graced the NYT hardcover printed list (A TOUCH OF DEAD, the Sookie Stackhouse short story collection, also made the printed list -- for its fourth consecutive week!).

Meanwhile, in the UK, A TOUCH OF DEAD had the biggest hardcover week ever for Charlaine, appearing at #18 on the UK Bookscan hardcover fiction bestseller list. DEAD AND GONE appeared at #30, and in total, Charlaine had four books appear on UK bestseller lists last week. We're positively thrilled, and it shows that Sookie is becoming an increasingly global phenomenon.

11/3/09: Congratulations are in order for Charlaine Harris! Sookie Stackhouse fans will be pleased to learn that last week Charlaine's new Sookie short story collection, A Touch of Dead, debuted at #2 on all major bestseller lists, including the New York Times!

11/3/09: The wait is finally over! Brandon Sanderson is on tour now for THE GATHERING STORM (buy), the twelfth book of Robert Jordan's beloved Wheel of Time series. Check out the tour schedule here and visit his blog for his reflections on the tour and for updates on TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT, book 13 in the series.

9/21/09: We at JABberwocky are thrilled to learn that TRUE BLOOD, based off of the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, is now not only a Golden Globe award-winning series, but an Emmy winner as well! The series received the Emmy for Best Casting, beating out "Mad Men" and "Friday Night Lights."

We have to say, we feel this was a particularly well-deserved award. The casting for the series is outstanding, and the brilliant choice of actors is one of the biggest reasons why the series has become HBO's most watched show since "The Sopranos."

Congratulations to the cast of TRUE BLOOD, to casting directors Libby Goldstein and Junie Lowry-Johnson, and to the rest of the casting team!

8/21/09: We've just learned that Jeri Westerson has been named a finalist for the Shamus Award! Jeri is up for the Shamus for her debut, VEIL OF LIES (reviews | buy). She has also been named a finalist for the Macavity Award.

The Shamus is given by the Private Eye Writers of America, the winner chosen by committee, and the Macavity Awards are nominated and voted on by members of Mystery Readers International and subscribers to Mystery Reader Journal. The winner of each award will be announced at Bouchercon in Indianapolis in October.

    Congratulations, Jeri!

8/19/09: We have big news today for fans of Brandon Sanderson!

At Worldcon, we made official something that has been in the works for the last few months. Brandon has signed a major book deal with Tor for a new series, called The Stormlight Archive. The first book will be titled THE WAY OF KINGS, and there's a spoof Amazon page up for it right now (don't take too seriously the reviewer who claims the magic system is based off of the Sarbanes-Oxley rules for corporate accountants).

Additionally, we have a photo from the contract signing in Montreal:

Congratulations, Brandon! We're looking forward to the new books!

8/18/09: We at JABberwocky would like to congratulate all the cast and crew of True Blood on their recent Emmy nominations!

    The series received three nominations:

  • Art Direction (Single-Camera Series) for "Burning House of Love," "Cold Ground," and "Sparks Fly Out;"
  • Casting (Drama Series)
  • Main Title Design
  • We're thrilled at the news, and these nominations are all richly deserved!

8/12/09: Congratulations are in order for Kat Richardson! VANISHED, the fourth book in Kat's national-bestselling Harper Blaine series (reviews | buy), reached #4 on the Nielsen Bookscan hc fantasy bestseller list, in a busy week for fantasy launches.
